Since the zealots here spend soooooo much of their time railing against science, I thought this article was kinda interesting: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7490426/

In it, astronomer Neil degrasse Tyson discusses the differences between how the theories of these two giants of science were (and still are received), the difference between physics and other sciences, the nature of "theories" in science, etc. etc. I particulary like this quote:

"There's an old saying about the evolution of every great truth: first, people say they don't believe it; then, they say it contradicts the Bible; and third they say they've known it all along."

lol the funny thing is it's quite possible that we might have to abandon Einststein's if they do find the Higgs particle because the Higgs field sounds very similar to the "Ether" and the "random selection" of evolution might have to be changed back to Darwinism and Lamarchism if the tests in "epigenetics" continue to show activity based inheritance.

"The mystery of the beginning of all things is insoluble by us; and I for one must be content to remain an Agnostic."-Charles Darwin

"I think an Agnostic would be the more correct description of my state of mind. The whole subject [of God] is beyond the scope of man's intellect."-Charles Darwin

"Buddhism has the characteristics of what would be expected in a cosmic religion for the future: it transcends a personal God, avoids dogmas and theology; it covers both the natural & spiritual, and it is based on a religious sense aspiring from the experience of all things, natural and spiritual, as a meaningful unity"-Albert Einstein

Where are you reading this on "epigenetics" ? I find it hard to believe anyone or anything could resurrect Lamarchism .

I think what it means is that Lamarck wasn't completely wrong - some of our hereditary characteristics may be shaped directly by our environment after all.
