GB always stuck me as a robust chap who rather enjoyed the cut and thrust of the forum and handled himself better than most.

To "let go and let God" must involve a certain level of trust that people have to work up to.
I think Christianity both appeals to strong egos and perhaps might be most beneficial to strong egos, but at some point I think there is an aspect of letting go and trusting that one will be caught and sustained involved.
