There are numerous reports of this type of abhorrent behaviour. About 2% of priests are molesters - which is the same as that of the general population of married men (1). For the population as a whole, that figure is between 1% and 5% (2).
Roughly 20% of the population have been abused under the age of 18 (3). About 29% of these cases involve relatives (including parents and siblings) (4). Assuming two children per family, this translates to an incidence of abuse within families of 2.9%.
Bottom line - you are no safer at home with your family than you are with your priest.
