I know this was posted already a few times, but it's a pain analyzing thematic games as the PGN is considered invalid. A suggestion was made before to include the setup position in the PGN. Is this possible? (see http://www.redhotpawn.com/board/showthread.php?threadid=68318)

In the meantime can somebody post an example of a PGN that includes such a setup position so I can add it to the PGN?

Thanks,

David

To get a starting position in a pgn add a FEN tag like this -

[ FEN "rnbqkbnr/pppppppp/8/8/1P6/8/P1PPPPPP/RNBQKBNR b KQkq - 0 1" ]

I too want to have a valid PGN, as posted in [Threadid]68318[/Threadid]. Those PGNs from tematic tournaments are useless if they haven't the preludium moves included.
Please can we have that...?

The easiest for coders is to add a starting fen to the pgn.

For example...
[Event "Evan's Gambit Accepted Thematic"]
[Site "http://www.timeforchess.com"]
[Date "2006.11.16"]
[EndDate "2007.01.03"]
[Round "1"]
[White "rotk"]
[Black "Ragnorak"]
[WhiteRating "1570"]
[BlackRating "1801"]
[Result "0-1"]
[GameId "2764496"]
[Fen "r1bqk1nr/pppp1ppp/2n5/4p3/1bB1P3/5N2/P1PP1PPP/RNBQK2R w KQkq - 0 1"]

1. c3 Bb4a5 2. d4 d6 3. Qd1b3 Qd8d7 4. dxe5 dxe5 5. O-O Ba5b6 6. Rf1d1 Qd7e7
7. Bc1a3 Qe7f6 8. Bc4b5 Ng8e7 9. Nb1d2 Bc8g4 10. h3 h5 11. Ba3xe7 Qf6xe7
12. hxg4 hxg4 13. Qb3d5 Rh8h6 14. Nf3xe5 Rh6h1 15. Kg1xh1 Qe7h4 16. Kh1g1 Qh4xf2
17. Kg1h2 Qf2h4 0-1

[EDIT] which doesn't seem to be working for some reason? Ah well.

You might be missing the Setup tag to indicate it is a setup starting position.

Just add a:

[Setup "1"]

in front of the FEN tag might be a good place, but I don't think there is a specific position for it in the list.

I sent in a feedback of this quite some time ago myself with the Setup/FEN suggestion I had read about in the PGN specifications.
