He's talking about the illegal use of technology like mp3, illegal downloads, etc. Not a whole lot of illegal laser use, although I REALLY pissed off one guy when I hit him with a laser pointer🙂

Widespread pirating of software preceded mp3 by at least a decade, and pirating of cassette tapes and video tapes is even older. The internet and mp3 just made it cheaper (and therefore even more widespread).
