Hold your iphone up to your chest for a few seconds and the mic records heartbeat and displays it on a screen, more accurate than any stethoscope! I imagine you could email the results to a doctor if you are not an EMT or whatever. Great idea!

The article says something about using the camera and motion sensor. Did they get it wrong?

I think the motion sensor is used to signal the phone that it is looking at a heartbeat. I think they did get it wrong about using the camera because there is no image to record in the real world, it's data that gets transformed to a graph, at least that's what it looks like from the photo. They may use the camera electronics to capture the graph but only electronically.
