Black to move and mate in one.

As a bonus, construct a valid game ending in the same mating move.

I suppose you're going to say it's dxe3#, but I don't suppose there is any way to prove that white's last move was indeed e2-e4.

What if the last move was e3-e4?

Then e.p. wouldn't be possible.

And the OP promised us that there would be a mate in one. The only way this could be acomplished is that the white last move was e2-e4.

Or else this problem wouldn't be well defined.

Does the OP's promise stand?

The answer is indeed 1...dxe3 ep++.

Anyone wanna have a crack at the construction challenge?

I would like to hear how you can make this promise when you presented the problem.
Because if white didn't do e2-e4 as his last move, then your promise won't hold very well.

white's last move could have been Kg2-h1 also. So, there is no proof that the e.p. is valid, hence no mate-in-one.

I don't see other mate in one puzzles getting trashed due to this courtroom nonsense. I try to post a simple puzzle and a fun challenge and instead get barracked for it. 😞

I'll stick to playing chess, I think.

I thought it was a good problem. there is no other mate in one so you have to assume e.p is on. I do not see why anyone sees a problem with this.

The point is that there really is no mate in one on the board.
