Why spell out "No Capturing the King"? if you already stated that all pieces must move normally and you must abide by the touch rule. The knight cannot take the king... either king.

Then there is no checkmate. White can't check himself and there is no knight move which gives mate in 1. The move in this position which gives checkmate is Kxf3 but that can't be done since white has touched the knight. White also cannot move in such a way as to checkmate himself, which is in any case illegal, and does not have a way of allowing black to give mate in 1 either (which would fulfill the requirements of the problem as you stated them). Removing the knight from the board entirely doesn't help either, as it is both illegal and black then has Ke4.

The other alternative is to insist that black takes back whatever his last move was - which is what the FIDE rules require - and to make a different one. The difficulty with this is that it's unlikely that once this has been done there'll be a checkmate.

If white points out that black's Rf5-f3 was illegal and insists he play KxN instead, there is no longer a mate in one.

White needs to nullify his own double-check to end up with a legal mate, but he can't block either Bb2 or Rh5 without giving up a flight square.

I have a feeling the "solution" will be very dubious.

White suddenly notes that blacks last move Ka4xe5 (taking the white Queen) was illegal.
Even more because it was white's turn! So black takes back and white mates in one with Qe5-b5#

Well if it's a "horribly illegal position" and there are no rules than he touches the knight again. Giving checkmate! 🙂

to swiss, it need not be a legal mate, just moves must be legal from now on. Take from my example that black has just made a hideously illegal move but white doesn't wish to point it out. To met, it is white to move. To pavlo, black can take the knight.
