Winboard is telling me "Bad FEN position in clipboard"

Did you copy this position right?

The FEN is correct.
Does Winboard require some special format (numbers after the position)?

It's amazing that Winboard 'help' does not mention FEN or Forsyth.

Here is the first couple moves from Ruy Lopez in FEN:

r1bqkbnr/pppp1ppp/2n5/1B2p3/4P3/5N2/PPPP1PPP/RNBQK2R b KQkq - 0 3

That is what went to my clipboard when I copy FEN from Winboard....

I'm not a FEN master... but I've been able to paste other FEN from this thread. Huntingbears! I can't paste BarefootChessPlayer's Fen either.

Neither am I, but my girlfriend's mother's cousin claims that she was actually given a position by one. Of course, nobody believes her! 😵

Anyway, Fritz accepts the FEN - but fails miserably to find the win. 😲

Winboard, like my ChessPad, probably wants the extra details at the end of the string, about whose move it is, who can castle, etc. I couldn't paste Barefoot's strings into ChessPad either. Had to do them manually.

Thanks, huntingbear.

The original puzzle was found to have a flaw. But it could be saved by moving a knight from b5 to d5 - which is what I did.

However, it could also be saved by adding a pawn on a2.
The puzzle is then even more impressive.

The FEN is then 8/k3P3/p3K2n/1n3p2/1N4b1/1P1p1p2/P7/4B3 w - - 0 1

(How come some posts have an Edit link while so do not?)

For a little while after you make a post, you (and only you) have the option to edit the contents by clicking that link and making changes. I'm not sure for how long the edit link is available.

Thanx, huntingbear. (I can't see the point in that restriction.)

A game begins with the move 1. e4 and ends with one player playing NxR mate on his 5th move.

Reconstruct the game.
