Three gentlemen playing chess in a tavern

I've just bought a painting that appears to be a copy of this one:

My picture is slightly less wide and has been painted on board rather than canvas. It's also signed by a completely different person. I intend to hang it on the wall of my office as soon as I get round to it.

Anyway, what I want to know is - what is that weird green ball above the fire?

I see 2 different versions with the same title. 😕

That green blob is the top my head - a big greenpawn.
I appear somewhere in all famous paintings.

Can you make out the position on the board.

The picture is very old...it's mould.

I get the feeling that not everyone is treating this with the gravitas it merits.

I can't imagine what would have happened had it been a painting with the title "Nude ladies playing chess...".
