Magnus stated on ICC that in his recent match with Shirov, he had deviated from a previous match, using a move found from correspondence play, his words are,

“22. …Bc3 was an idea I borrowed from some obscure correspondence game,”

to state that correspondence chess is not real chess clearly is untrue and to find, that the worlds number one rated player has borrowed from the excellence that correspondence permits, is rather inspirational, as it was actually one of my games 😛

Good job Robbie! It still amazes me that OTB players look down upon the correspondence chess community, while continuing to use ideas from correspondence chess to win OTB games.😏

thank you Bill you are most welcome, yes it seems that correspondence play offers a little edge of excellency, well at least at the top level, the quest for perfection as Purdy termed it 🙂

I think this CC joke has only been recent. Since the box got good.

Now OTB guys think every CC player will be using a computer and some
sites do indeed allow this.
So CC play is viewed with a sceptic glance.

In the old stamp and envelope days BCM ran a popular monthly CC games
section, the games in there were brilliant and very topical theory wise.

I've no idea what game Magnus is going on about.

Has anybody put Rybka on it and see what it thinks of the C.C. move.
(you can bet your teeth the big K did before allowing M to use it).
