I think it has to be this guy with the handle Morphy:

http://chess.emrald.net/tProfile.php?TacID=17605

he has a 2200+ rating with 92% solving accuracy. I haven't seen anything like that, and he is over 50000 tries. This is ultra-fantastic. I could put serious money on the bet that he is Shirov. does anyone know anything about him?

and while we're at it, blitzmaniac is nakamura, right?

blitzmaniac claims to be a young untitled guy, whose name I unfortunately forgot. I'm not absolutely convinced though, mostly because of his continuously extremely quick solving times. (I simply can't move my mouse that fast even ignoring success rate, but some say they can.)

nakamura was presumably smallville, and had the GM tag at the time. but I guess the tag disappeared as the handle turned inactive.

after a certain rating there's really not that many problems available, so I think anyone good will 'escape the gravity' around 2100 after a while. after that the success rate will probably rocket, as they'll be just iterating through the same relatively small set.

blitzmaniac is supposed to be Gopal Menon:

He's clearly pretty good, but I'm afraid I find it hard to believe that someone of his playing strength can achieve the rating he does on CTS without a little help from his electronic friend.

Yes, Morpy is the best. His raise to 2350 was impressive... (you cannot afford to do anything wrong when you are getting served 1700 problems constantly) Now he's slacking again though... I believe the current top 4 is pretty good (including the Argentinian IM and the Polish guy), the rest is merely trying... 🙂

That is not entirely true; even if you're 2500 on CTS you would get served 1585 rated problems all the time. (which is pretty annoying)

oh right, nakamura has to be smallville, I remember his handle on ICC was smallville too.

I read the interview with that blitzmaniac, and wormwood seems right:

"When you see a problem, what percent of the time do you remember the answer, rather than calculate?

I remember the solution about 75% of the time since I have seen each problem 3-4 times, but most of the time I calculate it anyway (some problems have multiple answers)."

3/4 is really a big ratio. I would jump to another server if I were him.

so any ideas about morphy? is shirov an internet-friendly guy?

I meant the ratings of problems, not ratings of tacticians. 🙂 of course it'll be a huge penalty getting low rated problems wrong. but there's only a handfull of high rated problems to memorize, where as on lower levels you have thousands of 'peer level problems' to memorize.

not that it would make getting there easy, far from it, but mileage will have a lot more impact.

The "chess Internet" is full of beginners, but somehow GMs are unretrievable. Somehow you'd expect to stumble on more GMs sitting behind the computer, considering the general nature of chess players ... 🙂

A few more "strong" tacticians for our amusement:

uraleech (2721 / 68.9% ) 😲
ChapoDeZozo (2491 / 100.0% ) 😲
Iowaplayer (2491 / 99.1% ) (appears to be a real GM)
NoProblem (2467 / 100.0% ) 😲
FlaccidMetal (2353 / 96.3% ) 😲
