Isn't this a reworking of an older silman book?

No it's all new. I have the old one and it's maybe 150-200 pages at most, and this one is 530 or something like that.

The book's already out--I saw it in the store this morning. Looks great. And yes, it's organized around different rating levels--the endgames you need to know/are likely to see at various levels of play.

There is a mini-review here:

I like Doveretsky but I will probably pick this one up. Should be a huge seller.

I might wait for the 3rd edition so they can catch 70% of the missed notatations and spelling errors.

It will be a book worth buying based on his track record thou

Once I read that Silmans book was out in stores, I quickly drove to the nearest two book stores and bought it, and made it back in time for 24. I will let you guys know what I think after I get a better look, but I can say from the quick look through that I took of this monstrosity that it is gonna be a hit. 😀

Wow, 530 pages. Didn't notice that. Looks like a buy just for the amount of material.

I'm pretty critical, but Silman's books (aside from contents) are the best produced chess books I've seen. Well organized, good, solid readable type, interesting pictures. Probably because he has full editorial control. Most chess authors have little to do with the actual production process.

Please tell us how many pages Silman devotes to rook and pawn endings-- seems like alot of endgame books have a small section on K & P endings and a majority of the book spent on R & P endings.

Thanks!

Where did you find this book? Amazon says it hasn't been released yet. I had to preorder from them (I paid [after $4 shipping] $21.21 USD).

It's on the shelf at Barnes and Noble in Fort Collins. Don't know about elsewhere.
