1. d4 e6 2. Nf3 c5 3. e4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 a6 5. Nc3 Qc7 6. Bd3 Ne7 7. O-O Nec6 {looking a ough and accepted the mate} 40. Ng3 Rxg3#{good game!} 0-1

9....... black's knight development has been unusual but only 3 tempi, the same as the much more common. Nc6, Nf6 to Nd7 so not so slow!?
10...... g6: ideally black wants his bishop on the long diagonal but I was reluctant to commit it too soon as on f8 it does defend d6, which I felt might be relevant if I ever allowed a Bb5 sac
11. f4 !? would have been better I feel: white might be still for choice
11..... h5!? stealing an idea from KID Samisch, to harass the white knight and weaken his king
14. g3!? Not sure about this; possibly a little slow. I had wondered about g4!? during the game
14.... b5; I still didn't want to commit the f8 bishop, so trying to attack along this diagonal seemed very flexible
15. a3!? like white said, this move is unclear. The position seemed extremely complex to me at this stage
17. b3? this looked really ugly to me but it isn't that easy to exploit. I hadf expected 17. Bd4 (losing control of d4 was the drawback to na5 after all. For better or worse I had intended to play 17..... e5 18. Be3 Nc4 19.Bc4 Qc4 unclear
18..... f5! strong (I think)
white mentioned 18..... Rc8 but after 19. Qf2! 00 20. Bd4 Nf6 21. Bb6 Ng4 22. Bc7 Nf2 I thought it close to equal
22. Bd2 was required, ugly though it is
23..... Nb3 after this black is winning.

Over all, without false modety I feel this is one of the best games I have played in ages. Many lines I have not mentioned in this brief analysis.... would be happy to discuss further if anyone was interested.

Thanks "watchyourbackrank" for the game (ps he made a comfortable draw with his game as black)

Nice game, and thanks for taking the time to annotate. Interesting to see that as so often with these games, it becomes all too apparent to the annotator where things started to go pear-shaped.
More of the same please people 🙂

just as I footnote:
encouraged by the dynamic possibilities of this obscure variation, I tried it over the board last night in the North East of England league. My opponent was only 1900 so maybe not a strict theoretical test but still, it worked nicely after
7. Qf3 Nec6
8. Nc6 Nc6
9. Bf4 Ne5
10. Be5 ( if Qg3 then f6) Qe5
11. OO Bd6!?
12. Qh3 g5! with easy play for black
13. g3!? h5 etc

after 19. Qf2 Black just takes the Knight (not O-O); anyways,
nice blitz game in the club filled with tobacco smoke and rattle of beer bottles (if it wasn´t played on prosaic internet, listening mother in law´s nagging, kids´ fight and the replay of soccer game form Barcley´s League).
if
19. Qf2 Bc3
20. Nc3 Qc3
21. Bd4 attacking the queen on c3 and the rook on h8. What is your idea then?

White is much better in my opinion as he will be the exchange ahead

Aha, okay, sorry I missed that.

But I couldn´t escape the feeling that white Knight is hopelessly tied up.

thanks for your comments, queenabber!

14.g3
you may argue this is a bit slow but after my Nh1 it's clear that I'm planning to put my knight on g4. so, at least to me, g3 made perfect sense

15.a3!? I don't like this move in retrospect. should've carried on with my Nf2 plan without wasting time

You're probably right that 18...Rc8 could be met by 19.Qf2 but an improvement to your line is 19...0-0 20.Bd4 e5! (instead of Nf6)

yes, e5 in the line you mentioned does seem better.

I just put the game quickly through a computer engine:
you played g3
during the game I was wondering about g4!?
on a quick setting it liked gh!? lol
