Inspired by GPs Scotch Game post-
How many openings/defences/variations are named after countries?
Here are a few;
Austrian Attack
Danish Gambit
Dutch Defence
English
French Defence
Icelandic Gambit
Italian Game (Giuoco Piano)
Latvian Gambit
Spanish Game (Ruy Lopez)
Others?
does anyone patriotically follow a particular opening?

While checking on Wiki I discovered that Pirc is NOT pronounced "perk" ...
oh dear - been playing it for 25 years and always called it "perk" :'(
There is also a versuion of the Pirc called the Czech Defense
Didn't know that either.I also thought the Ufimtsev was a variation in the Pirc, but it's yet another name for it.
There's also an Argentinian attack in it.More news to me

The Argentinian Attack was refuted in the 80s with the Belgrano Counter Attack

Yes, not 'perk' at all. I was taught early on to pronounce it 'pe-urts' although the Wiki says 'pearts'.
Incidentally, 'Giuoco' is 'joo-okko' and the alternative 'Gioco' is 'ji-okko' or 'j'okko'; and 'Ruy Lopez' is 'roo'y' (like 'Roy' but with an 'oo'😉 & 'LO-pez', not 'low-pay'

There is the Cambridge Springs Defense (a variation of the QGD Slav), named after the location in Pennsylvania. Harry Nelson Pillsbury was the originator, I think, when he played it in 1904, if I remember correctly.
The New York System as a defense against the Reti was introduced in 1924, if I remember- it's basically like a London System, played by black.
And since there are citizens in the US who can claim lineage from every one of those locations, we can safely claim a family relation to just about any of them!
