I like your 37.Rg8 then Black would almost certainly have played 37....Qe7.


Jack stated if he was Alekhine then the beautiful finish is how the game
would have ended up in print.

A few times Alkehine gave a planned finish to a game as though it actually
happened to give the game some instructive gloss.
Usually it was because his opponent failed to find the best defence and got
mated in a more mundane fashion as in the above game.
If you saw just the bare score then the Bc5 and Rh1 idea may have gone past you.
