Hi Paul
Where?....When?....Who?....Result?....What did you play?
Game 7491540
The mate is there on move 31!
I was having trouble keeping the threats going in the end. That and the d5 pawn had me sweating a little, so I offered a draw.

Oops - I thought you meant............here's my mate in 9
🙂
Here was my mate in 6. I defended by hitting the dis-check piece
which is usually your best defence v discovered check
In the first one, the joke one. Store a mating pattern, a wee dance of death
that you have with a Q & B attacking a King defended by a Queen.
I've seen them missed in circumstances like this due to the threat on g2.
They see that first and miss their own mate.
So I'm showing it so you lot won't miss it.
Got quite a lot out of that positon and game. Cheers Paul.
I'm glad you liked it. I felt like there should have been something in there, but I just didn't look hard enough. The slow move Rc7 is the silent killer.
I haven't been doing much serious chessing lately, but on Saturday's three of us (sometimes four) meet and go over things. Yesterday, we looked at a game from Alekhine-Euwe Match 2, two of Capablanca's great endings, some of Keres games at AVRO 1938, and some of the 1000 Best Short Games Of Chess. Basically, I just grab a random stack of books, and we go through a little from each one each week.
Here are two of the mini's:
I love how the queen's bishop hounds the black queen in this one.
This one is great because you'd never expect such fireworks (after Nf5) from such a closed dull opening.
Enjoy
