I play the Grob on occasion and I keep checking this thread to see the refutation. So far...nothing. Not even a recommended best line for Black. So, where's the refutation?

No one is obliged to.. it is the best move though.

2.h3 scores better.

Who knows, maybe even the queens gambit is unsound 🙂
1. g4 .. d5;
2. h3

[wheres the pawn up?]

follow this with
2. .. e5 (or c6) then
3. Bg2

Edit: Seems we are all writing the same thing at the same time.

I too am waiting to see how the Grob is busted!. My latest victory Game 3419382 with the Grob reveals a stunning victory in only 14 moves.

Game 840034

I guess 1.e4 b6 is out to right?

I was around 1400-1600 when I played that game, in case you are wondering.

Edit: Precisely 1447 vs 1200.

1....b6 is playable for black - I have played it in OTB against equal and stronger opponents with good results. In that game moves like 2....Ba6 and 6...f5 shows that black did not understand what are they doing.

No way.... Can't you see how white dominated that game.

Black had no chance using that opening.

Just like the Grob and KG, white is unstoppable in those openings. Unstoppable!

Those openings are brillant! Why doesn't white always play them?

(Sarcasm obviously).

Black missed the obvious 10...Kd6 which was just about a forced win. White's immediate resignation would have been in order.

I understand your point, but also against strong opponents KG and Grob can have success. KG is sometimes used even in top GM level with good sucess. And you can see from games of IM Mike Basman how to use Grob against IM and GM.

I would like to see some decent games posted here instead of the usual slaughters against far weaker players and them claim such an such opening is the greatest and post a few games of a weaker player getting crush.

Plus the quote, I only play Grob against players I choose (weaker) or whatever it was doesn't help much 😛

Anywho, just having some fun here. How about a thread for the Hammerschlog.

By playing 1.f3 White grabs control of the crucial e4 square forever!

Followed by 2.Kf2 and White is in the driver's seat.

The Grob is fun and always you must modify your opening according to the strength of the opposition. Against weaker opponents go for the quick kill but against really tough opposition perhaps a slow and safe build up is a better choice.

There is nothing wrong in choosing opponents carefully if you want to play the Grob.

I've posted these games before in DF's Grob thread.

Game 1577086
Game 2184078

The Grob is indeed playable against >2000 opposition, provided you know what you're doing.
