more interesting would be

6. Nc3 dc
7. a3 unclear
actually i could not find any games on chesss365.com or chessgames.com with this
crazy move of GP's ...Qf6 then again i could find no way to refute it either, it just looks
so dangerous to place the queen on the diagonal of the bishop with the knight being
able to jump to b5 attacking c7.

I" could not find any games on chesss365.com or chessgames.com with this crazy

Then mission accomplished. We play chess man to man and not memory v memory.
If Queen Nabber thinks White is only slightly better. Good.
I play better when I am slightly worse.

3...a6 here.

Which I believe has made it's made it's way into theory, is a good plan crossing
move. The White squared Bishop struggles to find a role.

Anyway for the record here is the first 3...a6 game.
A piece of OTB inpsiration.

Let's not be too hard here. It was White's first or second season.
He is still playing these days. And me? I was playing any old junk just to
get things interesting. (nothing has changed there either.) 🙂

16.h4? is something I would never play. Why not 16.Bf3 for example with solid plus for White due to bishop pair?

Hi Pacifique

I know, it's the move that turned the tide. It's why I added a note there.
I'm sure we have all played moves we cannot understand why we played them.
(I have hundreds.) 🙂 It's a baddie alright. I was glad to see it.

Back then I seemed to get away with anything because sooner or later a
tactic would appear and I'd spot it.

(What am I talking about back then for? - I still play like this.) 🙂

It's easy playing the tactical trick - but first you must spot it.

5...d6 6.Nc3 Qe7 and Black seems to be OK.

Speaking about 1.b3 - this seems to be one of the most effective anti-1.b3 game

actually i think 5...e4 is more troublesome for white. The whole reason that the knight
comes to a3 is to attack the dark squared bishop and the e pawn, once the e pawn
advances and the bishop retreats the knight has no targets.

in his book, Odessky gives a very amusing story of this game. It is noteworthy that
Sakaev was not yet a grandmaster but already a first class player and a connoisseur
with the white pieces. Today white does not rush to put his knight on c4 but plays c4
and retreats the knight to c2 or b1 heading for c3, its rightful place.

Before draw agreement I would play 35.Kc4 to see if Black will do something to parry Kb5-a5 threat. If Black understands this and plays 35...a5 with Bb4 to follow then I don`t see how White can make any progress.
Good observation.

I wonder if the 1.b3 fans ever consider 1.b4 instead. I know it is a different opening but as black for some reason I seem to have more trouble against 1.b4 than against 1.b3.

On RHP, I played three games against the same opponent who played 1.b4, and he won two of the three. I would like to forget those two losing efforts, except for a couple of concepts I gained. This is game (below) of the three that I won.

I am black and white plays 1.b4. He did a slightly early 2.a3 in all three games -- instead of 2.Bb2 to avoid black Bxb4 I think. Anyway, he seemed to resign a little too easy in this game, especially with my indecisive moves. Though I would have been pushing for the win with the extra pawn.
