I did the whole lot in 60 seconds at 10 minutes past midnight after a bottle of wine and scored a terrible 1700 due to me sacrificing pieces everywhere.
After a good rest, no drink and an hour to spend thinking I will try again and see what impact a good rest and no drink have on my game.
Originally posted by Grampy BobbyBy the way, Z, my first twenty minute pass Saturday morning gave 1790 with 1. c8-e6, 2. h5-g6, 3. c5-c6. 4. b3-d1,
Hi, Z... how does b6-d8 look to you for diagram #8?
5. e3-c5, 6. c3-d5, 7. c7-c6, 8. b6-d8, 9. e4-b7, 10. d6-d5.
Today I took another swing at it. Made a change to #7... from c7-c6 to the more sensible g6-g5. Rating moved from
1790 to 1860. Might take one last look at #'s 1, 4 and 10 later this week.

I'd like to point out that this was Varenka's idea so I can't take credit.
If you go to the website and right click anyway on the page a menu should open. One of the options will be "View Source" (source code). Clicking on that will open the code used to make that particular page. A quick look through shows all the possible moves that the test considers and the rating value that it assigns to each.
haven't even learned yet how to cut and paste. Two, seems to me it would take the fun out of it. Anyway, thanks. -Bobby
Originally posted by Eladarlike with any quiz, most people will post their score only if it's 'respectable'. or if they have a good excuse, like greenpawn and dragon fire. you won't be seeing answers from people who score much lower than they 'should'.
I posted this rating quiz on another site and everyone is saying it is bogus. The rating scores they are getting are way too high and pretty much all the puzzles are tactics.
that said, the scores posted here seem to be surprisingly close to what they 'should' be. but 2-3 problems right or wrong can easily change the rating hundreds of points either way. like if I'd do it now I'd get a lot better score than before.

I was going to do it later tonight or tomorrow when I'm in the mood.
But in a moment of mad inspiration I tackled it and entered in every
stupid move I could find getting them all wrong in one minute.
(I had to retract one silly move because it suddenly looked like the answer)
So I got them all wrong and received a grade of 1000. yahoo!
In pas ...[text shortened]... ition in the first place, then spotting and playing the combo.
Good fun though, good thread.
😉
Scored 2000 though worked quickly.
1 ... Rxf3; seen the position from a Nimzo-Indian Tal game but I do not remember who was white
2. Be4; played in a Fischer KIA game
3. played g3-c3 but just realized c6 probably works ... for perpetual I think?
4. e6; calculated zugzwang
5. Bc5; I know I've seen this position somewhere... but where?
6. b4; likewise I've seen this position recently... of course Black cannot take Qxb? Bxf and Nd5
7...Nh7 I played as I am too tired to calculate the merits of Nxe4 - f5 - etc. plan
8. Bd8 ( followed by c7 )
9. Bd4 ; I can't see how Bxh6 could work for more than a draw
10...h5?? ; I don't understand the position... think I've seen it before
Edit: Reconsidered 10... the idea is almost certainly Qd7 ... still trying to understand its long-term effects...
Edit2: oops 6.Bxf wins...
Edit3: Now at 2380 w / corrections w / o having figured diagram 9... hmm...
Edit3: nvmd. just checked source code, with all mine correct, my score reads 2380 though it should read 2530 ... perhaps my mistake ...but having just checked my answers against the source code, I somewhat doubt that.
In any case though ... irrelevant ... good exercise 🙂
