After Malta Open, I went for one day to Amsterdam and than to The Hague to visit Dutch family (they're not in that international prison, note that).

My cousin prepared a surprise for me, before we went to visit my old auntie.

He organized a one game chess match between me and his friend Frits Varenkamp. We played on antique Indonesian chess set, which made a game sort of a blindfold game, since it was very difficult to tell Knights from Bishops and Pawns from Rooks...

So I won and my cousin gave me this chess set to take it with me to Belgrade next day.

I managed to reconstruct the game, but, allas, I didn't write it down and after a week I forgot it. You can see endgame position on a picture here: I had an extra Pawn as White:

My cousin is driving legendary Citroen 2 CV ("Spaček"😉 and this car
is always attracting attention on the streets of The Hague. it is impossible to lock, it doesn't have seat belts, but it does have 2 ashtrays. He was driving without hands, which he used to roll a cigarette. This time we were not fined.

The car:

It was nice ending of Malta open for me, really cute chess trip in November.

Next morning, when I should leave my boat hotel in Amsterdam:::

I discovered it was impossible to walk on frozen wooden bridge.
I had to get back on the boat and I asked the host of hotel to give me a pair of dispensable dishcloths to put them around my Nike shoes. Only that way could I walk those 120 feet on wooden bridge to the cobblestoned street Osterdock...

You don't have your own houseboat? I met a nice couple there with their own boat and growing some outstanding weed......

Did you win? Was your opponent a strong player also?
