My first ever tournament game. Round 1 Sennelager 1972
I got the trap idea from The Chess Companion by Chernev.
Then I met a strong player who advised me 2.f4 was unsound.
I never played the King's Gambit again.

The Kings Gambit has never been a main weapon in any World Champs armoury.

What right do you have to expose your King like that on your 2nd move
when there is a perfectly good move (2.Nf3) in the position.
Any good player who is willing to answer 1.e4 with 1...e5 will have
a line against the King's Gambit.

Just had a thought - If I show it, Russ will remove it.
Because once you wood pushers see this, you will realise you could
never obtain such heights. You will cancel your subs and give up chess.
I don't want that to happen - you will have to wait until the CD comes out.

Here is that game I mentioned earlier in this thread.
I went sac - happy. It's not 100% sound White has better
moves but what he played looked good enough Over The Board.
He ran his King up the h-file avoiding a perpetual thinking he would be
safe.
He missed the Queen Sac.
It was published in The Scotsman...which is read in Moscow...

Mind you, I'm not saying this is a great opening for Black. Any opening where Black moves his queen very early, twice, while blocking his king's bishop after the second queen move while allowing White to develop, is suspect. But I'm not sure that the line you suggest is a refutation.
And it so happens that I am interested in this reply to the King's Gambit. Because if it could be relied upon to be playable, it would certainly cut down on the amount of theory necessary for Black to learn. So, I'd like to see the best counter-lines by White. 4.Nc3 exf4 5.Qf3 looks very good for White except in the context of 5...c6, when it seems to lose its advantage. 4.Nc3 exf4 5.d3 fxg3 6.hxg3 c6 looks stronger for White, as does 4.Nc3 exd4 5.d4 fxg3 6.hxg3 d5 7.Bf4 c6, but I'm not sure.
