Thank God !!!

If 1. ... d6 had won, I might have resigned for us. LOL
It will be hard to outplay a 2300 rated player like that.
I think c5, e6, or e5 are going to give the most trouble, although I can't see the black side of a ruy lopez really given us that many chances. 🙂

We could basically guarantee a draw by playing the Berlin defense.

Not really ... 4. Nc3 is a four knights for instance. The theoretical draw has already been avoided on move 4 in that case. He can also throw in an early d3 or Qe2 among other things. 🙂

And those openings would give is some good chances which is why trying the Berlin defense would be a good idea. I still say the sicilian as the complications that arise in most variations would be our only chance since we have more eyes to spot inaccuracies, not that we will but it just gives us a better chance to.

no one plays the Sicilian unless he needs to win ,its simply an English opening, spit, ding, a tempo down, its naff, big giant holes at d5 etc etc.

The Berlin defense is not a variation in the sicilian. Only a few variations in the sicilian leave a big hole on d5.

yes, i am quite aware of the fact, its a variation of the Ruy Lopez, generally employed by its practitioners to bore ones opponent to death!

I vote 1... c5. And when the sicilian is chosen, may I suggest 2... g6? Also, I agree with a previous poster that a new thread should be created for each move; there are a lot posts in here and I don't want to trawl through all of them to find the correct page. Once we make the first move, please make a new thread. It just makes it much easier to follow. Thanks

OK ... A New Thread Will Begin When I Submit The First Move AND Get A Response.

I will title it PAWN RIOT VS The Forum Move 2.
