Originally posted by adam warlockWell there is a way to get the king to the center in this position...whether or not it pays off I don't know...didn't look hard enough. 😛
yeah!
I had plenty of bad moves but I think what I really missed was the rook lift. 😞
But the next time this opportunity comes by I'll know how to cash it in. 🙂
I've written a few times on double bishop sacrifices on our club blog ...
http://streathambrixtonchess.blogspot.com/search?q=double+bishop+sacrifice
the link includes a double bishop sacrifice that was played in Blakes 7 (which some older RHPers may remember as the finest science fiction series of all time)
also some double bishop sacrifice exercises for the interested...
I personally have only managed to pull off a double bishop sac twice. Both in casual blitz games and one of those ended up with me forcing the draw.
Never got near it in a real game ... never seen it happen either.

By never happening in a real game you mean OTB game?
Originally posted by adam warlockYes that's what I meant ... although to be exact I've never been able to play it in correspondence either.

And when I say I've never seen it I meant I've never seen it played in a match that I was also playing in.

Not a double bishop sacrifice but just the greek gift sacrifice. I think this was my best Schliemann game so far. Probabibly my best attacking game. 😀

Normally I don't like to analyse games with engines because they just tell you that something works or doesn't work. They don't tell you why it works or doesn't. Only human feedback can do that.
Have never played a pure two Bishop sac.
I'vesacced both Bishops at different phases of the game and won
but never a pure Lasker style sac-sac & mate.
Nice game indeed. The first one, didn't look at the other ones yet.Notsure on the soundness of the sac,too complicated for me so against me it would be worth a try 🙂 Did notice 2 things:
1.You didn't really make the classic mistake of the wrong rook because when you played 11....,Rfe8 ,your queen was blocking the a8 rook,so 11...,Rae8 simply wasn't available.Instead,11...,Qe7 or 11...,Qe8 stepping out of the pin and aiming for h5 looks better.
2.I think you resigned too soon.Sure, you lose a pawn, but rook + pawn endings are crazy.I'm no expert but I would definitely fight on starting with 41...,a5.
Originally posted by KatastroofThe worst part is that the sac was indeed sound: 15. ... Qxg5! {Wins the game hands down! I missed this move because it was too quiet} 😞

I just resigned disgusted with my play... I know I could kept on going but I was just too angry at me.
Edit:

And on this game with perfect play this wasn't a mating attack just a material winning attack. Anyway it would have been cool if i could pull it off.
Originally posted by greenpawn34Chined up alright. Chess isn't my way off living so after a few days of feeling miserable and wanting to punch myself I forget about it. Till the next time I pull another of those ones.
Don't worry too much about missing a flashy finish.
I've just posted up a flashy finish - but they can backfire.
But you are right - they are cool if you pull them off.
But you look lke a clown when they fail - and I've
looked like Coco the Clown on dozens of occasions.
Chin up.
But anyway here is another bishop sac of mine. A slow CC game. Keep in mind that this is a game in progress so no comments are allowed yet but ahhhhhhhhhh. Yeah it isn't a real double bishop sac (sacing on the h and g pawns) but it was sound as hell. And yeah I also know that I got my dividends right after the second sac and normally that only happens 5 moves down the line but still...
I really tried not to post this one till the game was through but this kind of sac got me hooked since I botched it on my first game... But one day I'll pull the real Lasker sacrifice.
