and she has turned down a draw.

Linda Jambo? you made that name up cause your a Hearts supporter, err i mean
Hibs. Right now i am following Colin MacNabs game, it was a pirc i think, quite
interesting but a terribly positional affair!

here MacNab played ...0-0

i really wondered what was wrong with ...Nxe5 but it seems that its rather dubious

She exists all right and has just agreed a draw.

Admit the name Jambo jumped out at me because of the Hearts connection
but this is a thread on the Olympiad and she is playing in the Olympiad.

I am well aware of the thread title, thanks, i am just making fun. Mr MacNab has also agreed a draw, i dont know what has happened to Mrs Grant, Graham Morrison is going into an interesting endgame, two knights v a rook, with not a few pawns left on the board, Mannion looks to be fine.....

Linda now has 1½ from three games.

This is the first time Malawi has entered a woman's team and they
very nearly did not make it.

This is from the BNL TIMES

http://www.bnltimes.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=5197&Itemid=31&fontstyle=f-larger

A nine-member Malawi national team chess squad was delayed in Dubai
after the organisers of World Chess Olympiad failed to send a chartered plane
to pick the team to Russia.

The team left on Saturday for Dubai and they were supposed to connect
to Russia on Sunday.

However, the chartered plane failed to travel to ferry the team on
Sunday thereby living the squad stranded at the airport.

Chess Association of Malawi (Chessam) publicity secretary Gilton Mkumbwa
confirmed the development.

“We got communication from leader of delegation (Paul Nyirenda) that they
had been delayed in Dubai. Nyirenda also said that other African countries
have been affected by the development,” he said in reference to Swaziland
and Zambia.

Mkumbwa said they contacted the organisers to clarify their position.

“The organisers promised to send the plane by today (Monday),” he said.

As we went to press Monday, it was not clear whether the team had
proceeded to Russia. The opening ceremony was expected to be held
yesterday evening in Khanty-Mansisyk.

The 39th edition of World Chess Olympiad will get underway Tiuesday with
Malawi hoping to improve its status.

Malawi has participated in the last two editions of World Chess Olympiad
and they have managed to produce candidate masters.

In 2006 Joseph Chalemba and Walama Mwanza earned the title in Italy
while their compatriot Chiletso Chipanga and Alfred Chinthere also won
similar award two years later in Germany.

Chipanga is the only player in the squad to compete in the Olympiad
for the second time. He has a chance to improve his status if he wins in Russia.

Other players in the squad include Richard Banda, Chuma Mwale, Joseph
Nyambalo and Petros Mfune.

This will also be the first time for Malawi to feature a ladies team
in the competition. The women side comprises Ndawonga Mwale,
Olyce Kapila, Vitumbiko Gondwe and Linda Jambo.

Jambo is also "hello" (or an equivalent-type greeting) in Swahili when meeting a sole person- it is hamjambo when addressing a group.

You learn some interesting and unusual things working for Disney...

Malawi have pulled Mozambique.

Linda will most likely face Josefa Mendes Lucas Mahota. Good luck.

I didn't go to the site until I read Linda's name in this forum. If she's playing again, how could I not watch? !!!

I read the story about her loss on the blog.
I really shouldn't discuss all the details in this public forum, but I will PM you with the underhanded behind the scenes story in a few.

I also noticed that you can download all 3 rounds of the entire event at the site.
I just did that too.

Round 1 has 498 games, so I should be good for the night. 🙂

I betcha Disney already has the rights to production if USA wins!

Also, I don't understand why Anand's not playing... Anyone know? He's like the most inactive world champion of all time. Kind of irresponsible IMO.

Linda wins again!! helping her team obtain a 2-2 result.
She is now P4. W2 L1 D 1

Linda takes the e-file and hits White targets.
White on the back foot and in a effort to creat counter play walks into
a piece winning skewer.

Linda then with the aid of mate threats pushes home the h-pawn.

Tomorrrow she will proably play one of the Abera sisters,
Haregeweyn or Betelhem from Ethiopia. Good Luck.
