Average moves per game

Does anyone knows what the average number of moves is per game? Not including amateur games. Also, anyone knows if there's a connection between this and the kind of opening chosen? I suspect the open game might be shorter aswell as the sicilian..

tournament games, 35-40 moves.

Is that number calculated or estimated?

Seems like I read it somewhere. At any rate, the vast majority of tournament games don't go much past 45 moves. Most are over long before then. Serious players in tournaments will resign a lost position usually, instead of playing on in a juvenile manner. Being checkmated is a real faux pas, anyone checkmated in a tournament game is required to wear their underwear over their head in the next round with a sign on their back saying "I'm a big dumbass"

I would say around 50.

For me all my OTB games I would says 25 moves. Rhp a bit higher 28 moves or so.

And most of my games are all against players of my strength or highers.

That's efficiency.
