Will anyone on this site be giving commentary for the twelve game re-match between Kasparov (46) and Karpov (58)?
"The Valencia rematch is being held on the 25th anniversary of that match, which ended in a draw because officials feared for the health of both competitors. In the 1984 match Kasparov was losing five games to nil after his aggressive starts were effectively countered by Karpov. But Kasparov made a gruelling comeback, first drawing numerous games and then winning three, before the match was bought to a halt, with Karpov, who had lost 20lb in the contest, on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Both competitors said they were prepared to fight on." from The Guardian, http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2009/sep/21/karpov-kasparov-chess-rematch.

Hi choux

The games would probably be of such a high standard that I doubt anyone would be able to adequately give a commentary. But I'm sure greenpawn will be able to point out the tactical shots that Karpov misses (The likelihood of Kasparov missing one is slim) 🙂

I hope for the best and fear for the worst. Anyone remember Fischer-Spassky 1992?

Fischer-Spassky II had it's moments there were a few excellent games.

Everyone favours Kasparov. But he has not played for a while.
Karpov has kept his eye in. It will be interesting.
Think Kasparov will win even with the lay-off.

Just hope for some good games, these two have produced some
classics in the past.

Me comment on a K-K match. HA HA.

If Gary plays a Latvian I might make a post or two.

Kasparov stopped playing competitively five years ago ... it seems that would hone his edge a bit ...although he's still full of fire "Ill answer in English so you can see how they twist my words later". Bookies are backing Kasparov, saying Karpov's age will work against him. "Kasparov is acknowledged to be the greatest player of all time. Karpov cannot be far behind. For six years after their first encounter, these two great gladiators played more than 140 games in their world championship battles: Karpov won a total of 19, Kasparov 21, with the remainder drawn."

This match of five months is expected to attract an on-line audience of 10 million. Exciting!

WOW this is fantastic news. Rapid and Blitz games but none the less what an event.
I vote we should try and get Keith Ruxton to annotate a few of the games on youtube.

Super stuff!
