It sounds like a fancy name for the doubling of a rook and queen. Not sure whether there is some sort of subtle reference to alekhines suspiscious death though?

Alekhine's gun refers to the tripling of heavy artillary on an open file. Usually with the Queen at the rear with the two Rooks in front of her.
The term was actually taken from the game Alekhine-Nimzovich, San Remo 1930, where Alekhine used this technique to great effect.
Check the game out if you get a chance. A true work of art.
Alekhine's play throughout that particular tournament was outstanding.
I have looked over that game several times and I really cannot find a single flaw in Alekhine's game. However, can somebody please explain to me how the rooks in the front are more efficient than with the Queen in the center of the gun? I find that to be a more practical placement for the Queen.

I guess because in an attack, you lose the queen last. That's my understanding of it.

I'm sure that's right. If you have to give up the queen before both rooks, fewer tactics are feasible because you might come out behind in the piece count, or your opponent might be able to abort the capture sequence to his benefit.
I guess it depends on the situation though, right? If the situation calls for a Queen to, let's say checkmate the King, after the initial rook strikes, then perhaps the Queen would be best in the middle. I don't know though, I don't use Alekhine's Gun often.

You're probably right, I'm sure it depends on the situation. I imagine you could find examples like you mentioned.

h3 would've ruined my day bigtime, and i was expecting it....i guess i wouldn'tve gotten away with it against a higher rated player, but duecer did beat me 3 out of 4 of our previous encounters so i still think it counts 😛
