One of the things I've been striving for is better rook activity. These two games are some fruits of my labor.

And another 🙂 it seems I was only able to take advantage of a blunder here, but still I was giddy when I got to play 22. ...Rc4.

It was definitely a blunder, but you still needed to see the tactic, and it was a very nice one! I could see the game in one of Greenpawn34's blogs on the site.

    Good show!

White played 22.Nxe6. Why not just 22.Nxc2?

Nice buildup here ... but what about this shot:

    22...Rxc3+!? with the idea 23.bxc3 Qxb1+ etc.

Just beautiful! If that were to occur OTB, it's one of those games where a crowd would slowly gather around the board in the tournament hall, with people shuffling back and forth from the hallway as they go out to talk about it.

It's very realistic, too, in that it's forcing moves that are easier to calculate, not some esoteric line a computer would spit out. Definitely a theme to remember.

That was a three minute game. 5 second inc.

Is this where I tell you that on that move I actually dropped my rook my accident on c4 and was surprised and what it got me? Talk is cheap, yet I was really profane with myself and my crappy ball mouse (get an optical one for !@*# sake!) when the rook landed on c4 instead of the pawn capture...

Perhaps my post should have said 'I was giddy when I saw that my opponent's response to Rc4 didn't cause me to lose instantly' Perhaps Bd3 there holds...

I did have the idea of Qxb1..etc and from there wherever...

but- its moves that count, and I dropped the Rc4 and it got done anyway! I only dreamed of a pretty variation with Rxc3 and I am glad to see it. Thanks for the analysis! 😉

Anyways, here is a game I played in actual cc play a little while ago, the ending is a nice Rxp move that caused immediate resignation on move 13. 🙂 This move really satisfied me to find.

    p.s. Edits to get this pgn right (& spelling x 3 )

Rxc3 seems like a pretty standard 9.o-o-o dragon position/move to me. even if it wasn't reached the normal way.

still a nice trick of course.
