It is a memorial to Max Euwe
World Champion 1935-1937
FIDE President 1970-1978
If he was still alive today, he would turn 106.

If Euwe isn't the worst player to be chess world champion then who is?
"Alekhine was pissed; when he give up drink for the rematch he trounced Euwe."
- Its popular myth created by Soviet GM A.Kotov (1913-1982) in his books about Alekhine. I would advice you to read Kasparov`s "My Great Predecessors" 1st and 2nd book where he have written about Alekhine and Euve and their matches.

Although I agree with your point, I also conceed that his title claim did have some merit. The fact that there was a "Unification" match with Kramnik means that his title was recognized to have some legitimacy. His conduct during the match, however, was clearly not World Champion calibur...and I was one of the many who quickly became former fans of Toppy. I'd much like to see a championship match between Kramnik and Anand.

What parameters do you use to find it out?[/b]
Interesting how you can supplant one myth for another with so authoritively.
