I actually stumbled upon this exact same game yesterday (I don't know who or where). I remember thinking it should have belonged in the "Sitting, Knitting, Playing and Prating" blog of GP.

The post that was quoted here has been removed
Those in the know will tell you it was because he was only a 1200 player at the time.

The player in question has been discussed many times and actually said that his marvellous improvement was down to improveyourchess.com

He also replied in a quote in that thread stating

I did something stupid by joining two 24 hour time out tournaments so my rating dipped because I was rushing things since I had to move in 80 games every 24 hours plus the other games I had. Working and going to school full time didn't help either.

I'm sure the website will help you.

The website took him from being a sub 1600 player in June 2007 to breaking through the 2000 barrier by the end of December 2007. Thereafter it was skywards to become the number 1 rated player on the site on the site at 2385 in a little over 3 years.

Edit:

At the very least black gave the game away. It wasn't that white was great, but black just blew it.

the game itself was ages ago, i thought it was fairly recent. Anyone can make 100 to
400 points a year if they are dedicated enough.

Yeah, my clanmate KJ has won a ton of games with that. From Pooh's private forums of earlier this year:

"Of course, it's the KJCavalier Attack. He's been using it for years in the service of the clan and certainly deserves to have it named after him." Mixo

Edit: (I've just noticed the first post by the creator of this
thread has been removed...It now looks odd...a game was posted
showing a high rated player falling for Legal's mate...It has been removed.
I've no idea why but it has gone.....Hope that makes sense of Yashin's post.)

Hi Yashin.

I'm sure I covered Legal's Mate.
(A mating trick/trap named after the French player
Kermur Sire De Legal who caught a player with this in Paris 1750.)

I can remember mentioning Game 217237 and Game 228160
where the same Black player Carlitos falls for it twice.

I can lay my hands on 33 examples of Legal's One Step.

Thomaz - Zorin RHP 2005

Black has played BxQ white mates in one with Bxf7.

Over 130 with Legal's Two Step.

Eight - Luck RHP 2003

Black has played BxQ. White mates in two with Bxf7+ and Nd5.

Indosmart User 390621 has pulled off the Legal Two Step 7 times including this from 2007

However...He fell for it himself one year later in 2008.

From this I deduce that we only learn from our losses
and learn nothing from our wins.

An instructive miniature this one.

Hi Yashin.

I'm sure I covered Legal's Mate.
(A mating trick/trap n ...[text shortened]... the fly...} 7. Nxe5 Bxd1 8.Bxf7+ Ke7 9. Nd5[/pgn]
It's one thing to play these combinations after being shown them. Imagine discovering them(and or others)before anyone else!

Hi Ketch.

Although it is a well know trick/trap we will
never know if all the players have seen it before
or if some found it for themselves.

We have a few clues....

Wiabj - rchillcott RHP 2007
Same idea in a new setting with mate
coming from Nf5 instead of the normal Nd5.

Two games where players have seen the idea
of The Legal Two Step but not quite got it right.

Excalibur - ancestrale59 RHP 2008

alexanderlu - doug989 RHP 2009

And finally one game where I feel sure that White had not seen the idea before.

polo2000 - King Mob RHP 2008 Game 4823807

(I've added the game number to prove I don't make these things up.)

Funny how it looks like I started the thread now.
I don't see why this post had to be deleted though (It wasn't a flame post or anything), but I'm sure there was a good reason.

@Geoff
Unbelievable. How do you find these games? It's hilarious.
And while I'm laughing I'm hoping you won't cover the horrible mistakes I made myself.

Hi Yash

" How do you find these games? "

I don't, they find me.....🙁

(call me greenpawn - Geoff is that other guy whose account I've borrowed.) 😉

I could not see anything in the first post either.
The game was played and the player did walk into Legal's mate.

Perhaps Robbie himself asked for it to be removed because it was an
old game played by the sites current No.1 player and he did not want it to
appear he was on a crusade.

It's a mystery...so it's time to specualte. 🙂

I don't know why it was deleted. Since it was about me, ask those that delete posts. I thought forum mods would tell the poster why it was deleted. This was pointed out today by a friend who is highly rated himself, about 10 minutes ago.

It really doesn't matter what is said about me anymore. People that know me love me, those that hate me will always talk trash.

don't worry, as i read it, he didnt say anything. he didnt even suggest something. it is a mystery to me, why the post went to the garbage... except for the obvious colle-reason, of course...
