Try this web site and see if averaging faces doesn't make for a more attractive composite than the individuals seem to you. (Averaging this way tends to smooth the skin, for one thing.)

There is also some research suggesting that faces that present less of a mental processing challenge are more pleasing. This challenge could be due to facial features and/or facial expressions, which are blended out in a composite. A person who looks quite young may also seem to present less of a mental challenge but don't be fooled.🙂
