As a fellow Englisher I sympathise but disagree with your summation; England's poor performance and subsequent exit was down to the manager in this instance.

Going into a tournament of this stature without having your first 11 established and therefore them not familiar with each other was disastrous. Furthermore, leaving a fit and in form Ashley Cole behind in favour of a weaker and inexperienced Layton Baines was downright bizarre.

Taking Luke Young and not playing him was reminiscent of Erikson taking Walcott and not playing him I.e. Pandering to the media. And what of John Terry, linchpin of the best back four in 2013/2014 world club football and a club and country defensive leader, left behind because of politics.

England played with energy but no organisation, naive to the end they suffered through a lack of strategic thinking tactical awareness from their head coach. Roy Hodgson is the worst England manager ever, how the FA have the gall to announce a 2 year extension to his contact is beyond perplexing.

It's depressing.
