Skulls

Took my very first SKULL today. It felt good but I can't help feeling guilty.
My opponent just seemed to disappear. He stopped playing and eventually ran out of time. I'm not long on the site and I wondered how others view this subject. Is it right to just go for the throat all the time? Show no mercy? Bring me his head?

There have been many discussions on this topic, and we all have different ideas. You should always take skulls in clan games, otherwise you're letting your clan down. I think tourney games are auto-skulled after a couple of days, but I always take those skulls on the grounds that time controls are part of OTB tourney rules. Others think we should take individual circumstances into account, after all we don't know why the person isn't moving.
Skulls in friendly games - why would you take them, unless the person has clearly left the site?

A certain type of player, in a losing situation, may delay moving in that game although still making moves in other games. If someone pulls that stunt on you, they're fair game for a skull-grab if they misjudge the timing.

or maybe he died of boredom.

I don't do a victory dance because every time I do it starts to rain.

You can come down off your high moral hill. The postings here from some of the people in your clan are positively vicious. As I said I am new here and only joined to play chess and have fun and ask chess related questions.

Unlike You and some more of your lot I am not here to preach religion or politics or to put down minorities. You won't see me here complaining about Obama or Romney or
Hispanics or people on food stamps. Your population has spoken and voted. You'll just have to get on with it.
