Hey, I did most of these things too, especially walking barefoot in the rain gutters, luckily there were no dumpy bottles yet. Our tunnel was about five to six meters long, into a cave.

Scouting. I saw wonders which don't exist anymore. The fire fall at Yosemite, for example. Natural Bridges State Beach (I'm told one of the bridges has since collapsed). Sighting whales off the No. California coast; sighting bear and lynx in the mountains. I suppose these things are gone now.

Crossing guards that made sure you got to school when you walked a half mile to school across city streets in the first grade.
Taking your tricycle to the corner store when you were five to get a loaf of bread.
That was in Los Angeles in the 50's. It was OK then, nobody thought anything of it.
In Iceland women leave their infants in baby buggies outside supermarkets and department stores in a parking area outside the door.
Why is that OK there ?
Hint: It won't be OK much longer the way things are going.
