According to Segen's Medical Dictionary, a zar is a possessing spirit that afflicts people in primitive African cultures.
"Zars are believed to speak through the host’s mouth, placing him/her in a hypnotic trance, evoking unusual behavior
and leaving temporary amnesia."

Make an effort to use it in conversation before the week is over. 😉

Perhaps I can make use of it in a crossword sometime.

Yes, it should be. Replace the hyphen ( - ) sequencially with a letter of the English alphabet a thru z, and find how many result in 3-letter English words. I have one in mind. It's best if you list the words.
Which letters did you have in mind?

bat, cat, eat, fat, gat, hat, jat, kat, lat, mat, nat, oat, pat, qat, rat, sat, tat, vat, wat, yat

I think you have a winner if you don't count words that begin with at.

Maybe so, but some folks here came up with words unknown to me.

For me this kind of pastime is useful for getting to sleep. I wonder what 3-letter string forms the most words when combined with one additional letter. But I am not able to stay awake long enough to find it. It boggles my tiny brain.

Here's one for tonight.

Find the English dictionary word with the most consecutive vowels.

Hint: It's more than 5.

I looked it up and it is one weird word with even more weird meaning! Don't even know how to pronounce it.

BTW, my wife and I used to play a game called Odd/Even

It goes like this: One player is the guesser and the other the guessee. So the guessee thinks of a word, you say in advance, 3 letter or 4 letter word, maybe 5 if you want it to last a few hours🙂

So guessee picks a 3 letter word TBD by the guesser.

So suppose the word to be guessed is Cow.

So guesser gives a test word, say Pat

Now you do a kind of math of it:

COW
PAT
If zero letters, in this case the first being C and P, and O/A and W/T, zero letters the same so the guessee says EVEN.

So the guesser thinks and now says POT.

Now one of the three letters is the same, O. So the guessee now says ODD.

So guessee knows the only change was letter #2 so now he knows letter # 2 is O.

So suppose his next guess is POW

POW
COW

now 2 letters are the same so the guessee says EVEN since it is 2, so 0,2,4 letters same means respose is EVEN and if 1,3,5 are same, response is ODD.

So now the guessee knows the second and third letter is OW and suppose next guess is BOW

So BOW
COW

no change so guessee says EVEN.

So guesser knows BOW is incorrect.

So he might go through TOW DOW HOW SOW and so forth till he comes up with COW.

We thought it was an interesting game, and we used to write down all that but then got good enough we could guess and respond without resorting to writing so we could be driving in a car and play the game by just visualization.

So I worked up a way to tell if the second letter was a vowel:

I would go PIP, PAP, PUP, PEP, POP, in no particular order and if the second letter was a vowel I would figure it out within 5 guesses. PYP I am not sure is a word but my series worked for the big 5.
