It’s convoluted virtue-signalling. Women are far better represented by them playing strong women characters surely.

@suzianne saidHaving a female Dr Who worked well, due to the premise of that series (regeneration) but Bond should always be played by a male actor, as was intended by the author. A female Bond would indeed be a gimmick.

If it were race instead of gender, it would be called cultural appropriation. We don't need to foster gender appropriation. Most women don't want to be men, after all. Let's not limit ourselves.
