The chess pieces are a faithful upscale of a standard sized 'hand made' set I've had since I was a boy. My father and I used to play with them 50 years ago.

After nearly a year of hard work my friend and I had our first game with the giant chess set.
The game had to be postponed for 3 hours as the day was too hot and there was dry lightening all around. We finally started at 7pm with enough light left to finish the game.
An article on the chess pieces and our first game, along with photos will be going into the local paper next week.
I'd heard that playing with large chess pieces is a different game to one played on a conventional board or by computer. Well I can confirm it's a much harder game to play when you're walking among the pieces, some of them behind you.

I told you, you need a bank of spectator seating - preferably one at each side. Then you can sit at the top and see the board, just come down to make your moves. Does your local paper have an online presence?

I like your forward thinking.
Even better, we could have handlers who would move the pieces as we direct from the stands.

Next stage of the project: give each piece battery-operated power-assistance?

Is it fair to say you don't leave the pieces out in the rain?

They have 4 coats of exterior weather varnish. The same as I use on the timber fences.
The latest thought is to buy a trolly to move them in and out of the garage quickly.

Anyone thinking of purchasing an air ticket and coming to Australia for a game?
Of course there are other things to do here besides play chess....😀

Is that jumping in, and out of, the way of trains in Japan?

Sounds like good fun..... if you're 14 years old. 😉

Unfortunately, my knees are not up to it.

Send me the you-tube link, after filming. 😀

It's true the bishop and king both have them but you are only allowed to put a massive one on the horsey. If you don't believe me read the rules or ask FIDE.
