Some parents do show unconditional love for their kids. It gives one hope for humanity.

Good post. I think most parents would react in the same way.I am 100% sure that I, and my close friends, would.

That's nice however there's something that irks me about a Mom taking a picture of her letter and posting it on facebook for all to see. It no longer becomes an intimate and special moment between a mother and son, it becomes an exercise in self-promotion. I understand that perhaps the motive could have been to inspire other parents of gay teens to be more understanding but somehow I don't think a facebook share is as world-changing as people like to think. Cynical, I know.

Not necessarily related but what's your opinion on this woman blogging about her potentially gay 6 year old? Is it charmingly gay-positive or borderline exploitative?

Does it seem right that a mother discusses their child's sexuality with the world without the child even having a concept of consent, privacy or even sexuality?

Ha ha. I wouldn't go that far but I am certainly not comfortable with it either.

I'm not part of the whole Facebook 'thing', but I'm pretty sure people mainly think of it as a way to communicate with friends and relatives, not to post stuff meant for the whole world to see.

I guess what I mean is, you don't see it as 'world-changing', well, I'm sure she doesn't, either. I don't either, but this story is nice to share. And that's why it made the news, a bit of 'good news' for a change. That's all.

Compare it with that other note from that woman who wants a neighbor to tear down a ramp she built for her handicapped son. Night and day.

I say bah, let's let 6-year-olds be 6-year-olds. Enough time for that other stuff later.
