Today in Britain, the Chancellor of the Exchequer
presented his budget. One of the things he did
was to lower the price of beer by one penny a pint
to come into effect next Sunday.

Will this one little act seem more important to the
British people than the harder deeper economic
problems that they must solve?

Will the ordinary Brit in the street be more happy
about the fact that his pint is now going to be
cheaper this weekend instead of other budget worries?

Supermarkets use alcohol sales as a loss leader
because they know that it always sells well anyway.

They have alcohol on special offer deals just to
get people into the shop and once in there they hope
that the customer will spend money on other items
which are not regarded as cheap.

That's the policy in most shops I think and a policy for business I guess. If I remember correctly, the profit on car sales is not on the car itself but service and spareparts. Not quite the same thing, but in business perhaps you must give something to get something - isn't that so?

What makes me laugh is here in Ireland
we have an organization called the SIMI.

This is the Society of the Irish Motor Industry.

But there is no motor industry in Ireland.
What they really are is a cartel of new and
used car sales dealerships.

Anyway the bottom has fallen out of car sales
ever since the recession hit here in 2008.

What I would suggest would happen realistically is the following.

The duty ( tax ) on beer is reduced by the British Government
by one penny a pint so less revenue returns to the exchequer
from this product. But the actual business ( bar )
will not pass on this reduction to the customer so therefore
the price of beer will remain unchanged to the customer.

That bar was quality. Demonseed arrived drunk and ended up crashing at the bar, we asked if that was a problem "if he throws up you're cleaning it" the bartender replied.

Shame, i liked that place. Never went back to it though lol
