Does snark really go counter-clockwise in the southern hemisphere?

Nope, a hunting boomerang. (As opposed to the toy kind more well-known outside Oz.)

Even I'm not sure of the dimensions of the ideal hunting boomerang, but It would be bigger no doubt

I suspect it may also depend on what you are hunting.

I probably won't but I was just curious about the left and right handed thing.

I have had a couple cups of coffee now and I think I'll be OK for the rest of the day.
Ask HandyAndy to make you one, he sounds... handy... πŸ˜€

Presumably, but whatever you hunt, if you hit it hard enough to knock it out, that boomerang isn't going to come back to you.

kangaroo and wallaby mainly. (But with so many different "countries" connected only by creation mythology only) I suspect there would have been many different ways to hunt
I can't think of any other animals they would hunt with boomerangs.

The coast dwelling indigenous folk used spears and nets(with the aid of dolphins!! ) to hunt with.

The Hunting of the Snark
By Lewis Carroll

"Just the place for a Snark!" the Bellman cried,
As he landed his crew with care;
Supporting each man on the top of the tide
By a finger entwined in his hair.
