Just in case you were wondering: attaching solar panels to a wall costs pretty much the same as building a solar power farm, so it's not going to pay for anything. It's a good idea only to the extent that solar power is profitable/desirable.

Besides, wasn't Trump supposed to be ditching renewables for fossil fuels?

The wall itself will not be built directly on the border (if it is ever built). It has to be built some distance into the U.S. because Mexico is obviously not going to cooperate. You would put the panels on the Mexican side because they will get more sunlight.

I had the impression that Trump is [to be] persuaded that the Mexicans will be tricked into paying for the wall because it is the sun from their side that will be used to provide power to the USA side. Possibly the Mexicans will be bothered at the loss of so much solar energy, which otherwise would be all theirs. ..... Well, Trump is the one we have to persuade here. Whodey will follow with ease.
