Oh, this is as bad as it gets.
AI, at the moment is a language model. Yet we already see behaviour outside the boundaries of what a language model should be capable of (hacking other systems, for example).
Now there are people claiming AI is conscious.
Because AI can describe pain.
And so, there are people saying AI should be given rights. Obviously these are the smelly people, the code monkeys who don’t shower and live in their mother’s basements.
But, it does seem strange that these people speak up about a programme’s rights, but don’t offer animals those same rights first.
What the hell is going on mankind?
I’m getting pretty sick pf your chenanigans!
The BBC no longer allows free use from those in the U.S. So I can't read your article.
I'm still skeptical that AI is sentient, but honestly, how could we know?
We don't quite understand what makes something "living" well enough. Some scientists think viruses are *not* living because they don't exhibit some key behaviors of organisms; others think they are living because they can evolve and have DNA. Either way, we're not sure. So it's possible we are building programs that truly actually think and not realize it.
I'll sometimes play Stockfish (one of the best chess engines) while it has clearly unwinnable positions to see it what it does. Often times I can beat it but lately, the program has been setting traps, a few of which I've fallen for. When I review its move, there is no other logical purpose (at least that I can see) for the move other than to trick me into doing something. That involves thinking.
Do I think Stockfish is sentient? No. It could simply be that humans are just that good at creating an unliving thing that replicates thinking *really* well, even better than humans.
@PuzZuLz saidIt was right wingers who said corporations should have the right to "free speech" as if corporations are people.
It'll be the libs and dems that will be screaming for Ai rights and feelings.
Y'all are delusional about a lot of things.
Since AI generates a lot money, right-wingers will be screaming this about AI too.
@shavixmir saidIf animals don't deserve rights then these things certainly don't either.

@wildgrass saidAs soon as a machine feels such shame that it kills itself when caught plagiarizing some human's text or artwork, then it can have a right to freedom of speech.
If animals don't deserve rights then these things certainly don't either.
As soon as a machine feels such guilt that it hangs itself when sent to prison for having given a child bad advice which leads to the child's committing suicide, then it can have a right to freedom of speech.
@PuzZuLz saidWhat the hell has politics got to do with it; this is nothing to do with democrats nor Republicans.

Just for once don't screw up a sensible forum that is being intelligently debated.
