The rising global temperature is a huge deal. In a recent analysis on the issue, for every degree of global temperature increase, GDP is predicted to go down 12%. Now maybe that number is too high by an order of magnitude, but then it's still really really big number. We can offset this with more economic activity, but wouldn't it be better if we weren't actively contributing to the problem?
This is the defining economic problem of our age. The solutions aren't even that expensive, they only require simple regulatory changes and the sundowning of a few of the worst industries. I think future generations will shake their heads at our laissez-faire reaction to this crisis in the same way that we now view historical slave owners. Completely unethical, bizarre, selfish, and unnecessary behavior.

I am not “anti-capitalist”. As far as I can tell, capitalism is the best - or least worst - system.
Capitalism needs a brake, though. Unregulated, unbridled capitalism can only end in disaster, which is exactly what we’re heading for.
Unfortunately, right wing nutcases have been duped into believing that anyone who’s critical of capitalism must therefore be “anti-capitalism”.
