It's sad, Linda Ronstadt, another one to get Parkinsons.

This is a great song and three great singers, Trio was an outstanding CD.

We met Emmylou when her tour bus stopped at a roadside rest area between Houston and Dallas. Thumbs Up. Thanks.

Did you get to talk to her? I always admired her voice, coming from the folk community, but I always thought she may have been a bit on the arrogant side, she seemed aloof to me. Of course that assumption would probably be dispelled if I ever met her personally but that is how her first impression went for me.

Have you heard the whole CD, Trio? The audio is a LOT better on the CD than it was on that show where you can't control reflections and so forth, audio on live shows are always worse than studio versions.

You probably don't watch Saturday Night Live, but they always have live music shows from a musical guest but the sound quality on that show leaves a lot to be desired, all of that quite aside from the really pukey music they put on. Just not a fan of rap, which seems to me to be nothing but anger set to percussion.

Driving southbound home to Houston, we had pulled over at a rest stop with a grassy area and picnic tables. Evelyn liked to make even brief interludes as nice as possible. I parked at the far end of the lot to eliminate any congestion when exiting onto the highway. After a walk down to the tree line and back, we sat at one of the picnic tables to collect our thoughts. Within moments we heard people cheering to our far left. Emmylou's Tour Bus had stopped and was parked parallel to the outer curb; she and her band were milling around stretching their legs and chatting with a few of the appreciative fans. We walked toward the bus but it was too crowded to get close. Emmylou did see us and returned our waves. (1 of 2)

"We met Emmylou when her tour bus stopped at a roadside rest area between Houston and Dallas." would have been more nearly accurate with "We were in Emmylou's presence..." My apology. Haven't yet heard "the whole CD, Trio". Actually I've been an intermittent fan of Saturday Night Live ever since Dana Carvey (sp) was all the rage with his "Church Lady" and other comical impersonations. Frequently during ads I still enjoy "Saturday Night Live" laughs on that channel. (2 of 2)

I came across this great version of a great song, Steven Foster, Hard Times Come again no more, the McGarrigle sisters, Emmie Lou, and company:

Here are the sisters, Kate and Annie and family, singing 'Gentle Annie'

Found this, Dick Gaughan, Emmie Lou and the McGarrigle's singing Wild Mountain Thyme, one of the best versions I ever heard!

Found this other great singer, RIP, Kate Wolf, with Nina Gerber, a great female guitarist, These times we're living in:

Kate was recording in the hospital room the day she died. Sad day for folk music. She was a great one.

Found some video's of a friend, Mary McCaslin, we knew back in the day. Here is one of her famous songs (famous for folkies anyway🙂

Way out west. She is a great guitar player and here is guitar and piano duo, not heard much (one great one was Ry Cooder and Earl Fatha Hinds, playing Diddy Wa Diddy)
Anyway, mary:

Here and her husband (RIP) Jim Ringer, a great singer in his own right:

Bramble and the Rose, written by Jim:

One of her best songs, Young Wesley:

Here is another friend, Steve Gillette, we produced one of his concerts in Venice Beach back in the day. Great song writer. This song, Darcy Farrow, he was taking a class in folklore and presented this song to his professor as a discovery he made, he fooled him completely, but Steve was the author with his buddy Tom Campbell. He had to admit it when his first album came out🙂

Anyway, Darcy Farrow:

In my perusal of the net, I came across someone great I never heard of before, he needs to be heard! Bernt Solvoll, don't know a thing about this dude but he is a great guitar player and songwriter and singer!

In a world without you:

Man, this guy is a wonder, simple melodies just sounding incredible. He reminds me of my best friend in Jerusalem, Ray Scudero, RIP, who wrote like this, 600 songs! here is another gem:

Sad, indeed. Linda Ronstadt's voice is still the strongest here; Emmylou Harris is one classy lady. Thanks, sonhouse.

You hadn't heard that song before? It is really famous in folk circles. I found a really beautiful version done by a husband and wife team, guitar and mandolin only for backup but her voice was hauntingly beautiful but I lost it and haven't been able to track it down yet. I click on all the sidebars that show that song when you see it on youtube but with no luck. I would like to hear other songs from them.

It is a nice piece to play fingerpicking on guitar.

Kate & Anna McGarrigle singing "Gentle Annie" evoke chords of both sadness and sweetness. Thanks.

May have been my ten year old laptop that caused the difficulty hearing this one clearly; will try again tomorrow night.

sonhouse, this group creates such beautiful gently plaintiff music. Think I heard a Dobro too. Emmylou adds so much.
