This is my favourite Mozart aria.

How I wish the opera it was written for had been finished. But alas, unsatisfactory reconstructions aside, a concert rendition is all we'll ever have!

That is indeed an amazing aria! So many great Mozart arias, so little time! The man was an endless well of operatic genius! It is quite a shame Mozart did not complete Zaide, but happy he gave us Idomeneo! And here's a classical guitar version of this same incredible aria!

and a piano version a la liedgesang

Most welcome, Teinosuke! It is intriguing that Mozart never finished what would have been a great early German opera. Of course Mozart by then had already written another German opera in Bastien und Bastienne, but that was but a child's attempt at greatness whereas Zaide certainly appeared to have every element of greatness. Symphony #32 is inserted as an overture when performances are attempted. No explanation as to why Zaide was never completed.
