It seems pretty clear to me that FMF is gone for good since his bereavement. And whether you loved him or loathed him it is also now clear that he was without doubt one of, if not THE best poster in the two forums he frequented; General and Spirituality.
Thoughts?
I miss him. He, and yourself, created the most interesting threads
When I click onto a different individual thread I’m placed on the top of page one. To look up the most recent post in that thread I have to FIRST scroll right down to the bottom of the page One to click on the Last page. I’m sure we used to be able to click on any page at the top AND bottom of each page?
The chevron "back" button will take you back up any hierarchical navigation (top left, under the logo). It will always take you back to thread's list, regardless of how you arrived at the posts.
I've been using the beta for a while, and it never occurred to me that it wasn't available in any other way as I'm using the back button now where it is available.
Give it a go, and if you are still wanting another dedicated button, I'll look at adding one.
@kewpiesaid We oldies just had radio, and even then people became alcoholics. Pile on cinemas, TV, internet, streaming services, mobile smartphones. It's impossible for a kid to grow up in any society (excepting maybe the Amish) without being constantly bombarded with advertising and propaganda, peddled by people whose lifeblood is money. What amazes me is that so many kids still manage to get through it and become mature, responsible adults.
The world today seems a far more complicated world to grow up in.
@rajk999said What would you say is the cause of childhood trauma?
Neglect, abuse, injury, separation or illness? It could be a anything really that has caused the child ongoing distress. It can result in a lack of resilience in coping with the day to day challenges of growing up which results in turning to substances or behaviours that bring a temporary comfort.
Take a look at Gabor Maté. He’s worked extensively with families, sick children & people with addiction.
@rajk999said It would be worthwhile to try to deal with the root cause of addiction. All these addictions is a fairly recent thing. I would think that some of these causes are:
- weak parental control
- parents and society that have addictions themselves so they are in no position to correct neither can they lead by example
- too much free time among young people.
- boredom
There are links between childhood trauma and addiction.
@sonhousesaid @Drewnogal What country do you live in? You mentioned kids born after 09 are prevented from buying tobacco forever? Sounds like a lawsuit to me.
Ah, Welch roads. Ok, UK then. Is that law real, stop kids smoking forever?
Sounds like a good idea if they could enforce it. Personally I hate tobacco, never smoke it and never will.
The exact date is after January 2009. As for enforcing it? I think young people may need to have to start carrying ID cards if they were born before 2009, to prove that they’re legally allowed to buy cigarettes.
My sons always used their passport or driving licence to get served alcohol as the guideline for those serving alcohol was ‘if the person looks younger than 21 demand to see their ID to prove that they are over 18’.
We’re now looking at possible restrictions for new young drivers. Ministers are considering plans to stop newly qualified young drivers from giving lifts to friends in efforts to stop peer-pressure car crashes.
A recent tragic car crash in Wales led to the mother of one boy talking to ministers about ways to reduce the high death risks created by new, young, inexperienced drivers.
