American football team on tv now claiming they are world champions????

Only 1 country play the boring game, so how can they claim this?
In Blackpool we have a Monday night pool league where all the pubs compete in 4 divisions with a relegation and promotion system. The league pool rules are slightly different and only played in Blackpool.
Last October, our pub won the Premier league.
Are we world champions?
