thats very dumb. you put the backups in and they drain a bunch of 3s.. the other teams coach needs to be fired. not a single free throw? so this 100 point team didnt even commit a penalty?

You may as well finish the thought if you're going to say something stupid.

Only in America would a couch have their kids beat up on 'special-needs' kids.

or

Only in America would there be outrage that a team played hard to win.

or

Only in America would this story make the news.

What is it?

They are talking about this at weei.com. Seems a LOT about the story was exaggerated. The school is a private school, not a school for special needs kids. The Big Show is starting now if you want to listen in.

The coach of the winning team has now been "let go" because he wouldn't apologize for the margin of victory. That makes me angry. They pay him to teach the kids how to make shots and keep the other team from making shots. Would it have been in the spirit of sport to tell the kids stop shooting once they were up by 50?

I guess the Covenant coach could have had his girls quit pressing when they were up 50; the box score [ http://www.maxpreps.com/texas/basketball/covenant-(dallas)/dallas-academy-(dallas,-tx)/boxscore.[WORD TOO LONG] ] shows that Covenant had 6 defensive rebounds, ergo Dallas Academy only shot 6 times, which leads me to believe that Covenant pressed all game. I don't think it was that "mean" of a coaching decision to press all game, if you think about it, the Covenant coach was giving the DA girls a lesson in basketball. His lesson: you better work on your handles or your going to get blown out the same way every night. Anyways, if the DA parents are that mad about losing by so much, they should lobby for a mercy rule at the next PTA meeting. No coach should get fired for executing his game plan and letting his players thrive on the hardwood. I am sure Savannah Smith, a Covenant player who had a 48 pt 8 rebound and 13 steals night, would love to get a scholarship to a D-1 school and what better way to get the scouts attention than to lead your team in a 100-0 rout. Do any of you think a D-1 program would hate to have a competitor with a killer instinct and ice water in her veins that plays both sides of the floor?

I doubt that any D-1 program is going to make evaluations during a mismatch like this. A D-1 program is going to focus on how a player does when the game is close against a challenging opponent.

If you wanted to evaluate an upcoming grandmaster, you're not going to be interested in how quickly he/she disposes of someone with a 1200 rating. You're going to want to see games against other grandmasters.

The average score of the losing team was 4.5 per game.

Amazing!

I still believe the team shouldn't have gone out of their way to score 100... but also will admit the media made this story what it is.

Why were they playing against a team this bad anyway? Surely they should be in different divisions.

Did the Detroit Lions play in the NFL this year? Surely they were in a different division than the rest of the league. 🙄
