I'm sorry to see him go. Sixty six is too young. That he seems, based on his writing output, to have been relatively cognitively unaffected until the end counts as a blessing though. His public statements indicate to me that he didn't want to survive as a vegetable.

He was an original. I read some of his works. Didn't know he suffered from Alzheimer's. That is a terrible affliction but science is making headway on eliminating this scourge.

Yes; he was planning to take euthanasia should that threaten to happen, but it appears he didn't have to.

I grew up reading them, my two favourite authors were Terry Pratchett, and Iain M. Banks.
Now both deceased before their time, because of Cancer and Alzheimer's.
